A festive wine tasting...

Last week , I was lucky enough to attend a wine tasting at The Wro in West Kirby, Wirral, hosted by Richard Hales of Gerrard Seel wine merchants and The Wro's lovely owners Howie and Sally. I went with my beautiful friend Claire and it was so lovely to have a girls night out! It was such a fun night and there were several delicious canapés paired with each wine, each devised to complement the flavours of the wine. 

We were greeted with a glass of delicious Prosecco on arrival and ushered to our tables; then Richard took the floor to explain in depth about each wine and its background and flavour notes. It was fascinating trying to detect the different flavours in each wine and he gave us a really interesting talk about each separate glass. I was interested to discover that in the UK we usually drink red wine too warm, as even though red wine should be drunk at room temperature, we often have our houses heated to such high temperatures here that 'room temperature' is too warm! 

It was such a festive evening and there was a roaring fire in the hearth and Christmas decorations hanging everywhere to set the scene. The yummy morsels included mini Yorkshire Pudding with Beef and Horseradish sauce, Smoked Salmon Blinis and Terrine with Farmhouse Chutney.

At the end of the evening, there was a charity raffle with great prizes, such as afternoon tea at The Wro and a magnum of Prosecco. Sadly, we did not win, better luck next time hey?!

The Wro always host such lovely events and this was no exception. A wonderful evening was had by all, and everyone was really put in to the mood for Christmas by the festive surroundings and the flowing wine! Thank you to everyone involved for such a superb evening!
