Dinner at Gusto...

A couple of weeks ago, I was lucky enough to enjoy dinner at Gusto on the Albert Dock, Liverpool. It was a rainy Friday Night, not the weather for going out at all, but we had already booked the table so we decided to brave the weather. Let’s face it when pizza is involved, I do not need much persuasion! I threw on a long black dress, heels and a spritz of my favourite Alien perfume and I was good to go. The outside of the restaurant looked really pretty festooned with blue fairy lights, and once inside we were happy to be ushered straight to a lovely candlelit table near the window. The restaurant was packed to the rafters with Friday night diners and drinkers, and there was a lovely atmosphere of merriment and hubbub of conversation. I immediately suggested that we should order the Garlic Pizza Bread with Mozzarella which we always enjoy so much at Gusto. It was crisp and light with just the right amount of garlic and heaps of delicious melted mozzarella. It certainly gave us an appetite for the next course. Yes, you guessed it, I ordered a pizza! Just a simple pizza Margherita which was so delicious with a fluffy base, tangy tomato sauce and again heaps of lovely mozzarella. The others ordered pizza too, and I sampled some of the smoky barbecue chicken pizza which was amazing.

Even after all of that pizza, we still managed to find a place in our hearts (and tummies!) for dessert. The Nutella Calzone at Gusto is legendary, crispy sweet pastry filled with gooey warm Nutella and served with vanilla ice cream! The combination of the cool ice cream paired with the warm pastry and melted Nutella would thaw even the coldest heart! I couldn't resist sampling a little of the Calzone , but my own dessert was amazing too. I ordered a Hazelnut Brownie with Pistachio Ice Cream. Yes you guys, it was as amazing as it sounds! The gooey warm brownie with the cool pistachio ice cream is just too good!

To drink, I had chilled Sauvignon Blanc which paired perfectly with the food as it was a crisp and delicate wine to partner with the rich flavours.  The whole meal was sublime and the service was attentive and polite. We lingered for a while longer over coffee, taking in the relaxed Friday evening vibes and relaxing after all of that amazing food! Finally, after a good three hours of dinner, we said a fond farewell to Gusto until next time, before setting off to find ourselves some late night cocktails ;)
I just love eating here and I can't wait to go back soon!

Until next time,
Camille

  9. Thank you very much Ray, it was a lovely evening. I agree, usually ordering Margherita pizza is a rather dull option, but I would definitely recommend the Margherita at Gusto. Crispy base, tangy sauce and lots of cheese ;)
