Chamber 36 launch party...

I am always eager to hear about an exciting new bar or restaurant opening in Liverpool so I was happy to go along to Chamber 36 last Friday for their official launch party. Located on Berry Street in an area of the city populated with good bars and restaurants, Chamber 36 is a cool new bar and tea house serving cocktails and dim sum as well as a list of carefully selected teas. The interior design aesthetic is laid back and stylish with polished wooden floors, marble tables, caged lights and artworks lining the walls as well as a long bar area flanked by cosy booths with tables decorated by miniature orchids. We settled in with a welcome cocktail of Jasmine Royale, Hendricks gin with jasmine green tea and lemon topped with prosecco and garnished with a ribbon of fresh cucumber.

In no time, we were treated to huge platters of dim sum to choose from such as Malaysian chicken satay and siu mai served with sweet chilli sauce and freshly made garlic mayonnaise. There was a great soundtrack of eclectic music playing and I perused the extensive cocktail menu, divided into signatures, Hung Gar (the hard way), Wing Chun (the soft way) and classics. I opted for an enticing Singapore Dream with elderflower, mango, grapefruit and lime blended with absinthe and tequila to create a refreshing long drink, it was easy to see why this was the first drink confirmed on the menu at Chamber 36.

My partner had lapsang souchong tea, which came served in a cute glass pot. I like the fact that Chamber 36 also offer a list of teas as there are so many speciality coffee shops around and it is good to see somebody offering an imaginative choice of teas too.

Platters of bao came of the kitchen next, I always adore these delicious steamed buns, and these had a tasty filling of mixed vegetables and a hint of oriental fragrance too. Later it was time for a traditional ceremony to bless the doors of the bar, and we were treated to a display of lion dancing by a local martial arts group accompanied by drums.

This was an amazing and energetic display of dancing and the ‘lion’ also scattered petals around as it danced, everyone was transfixed by the performance and quite a crowd gathered to watch on the street outside too.

After all of that excitement it was time for a glass of prosecco and I enjoyed a plate of king prawn vermicelli wrap, fried king prawns wrapped in crispy rice noodles served with homemade garlic mayonnaise. My partner enjoyed his second speciality tea of the evening, raw pu erh which is a fermented dark tea aged for a minimum of ten years in the Yunan province of China.

We had a great time checking out Chamber 36 and I think this is sure to become a favourite on the Liverpool scene, with an understated charm and irresistible cocktails, tea and dim sum to keep everybody happy.
